KFC has reportedly closed a large number of its restaurants in Malaysia amid a continuing boycott linked to the war in Gaza.
KFC Malaysia's parent company, QSR Brands, however, says it is trying to cut costs while focusing on high-demand locations.
KFC Malaysia is not a target of the prominent BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) pressure group, and it is more than half-owned by a state investment company. Still, the brand is considered quintessentially American and therefore inextricably intertwined with Israel, if not considered among "pro-Israel sympathisers".
