Chelsea 6-0 Everton - Premier League RECAP: Cole Palmer nets FOUR... but Blues stars still argue among themselves!

What an incredible night to be a Chelsea fan!

The Blues faithful have not had loads to cheer about this season, but that was the best performance their team has put in all season.

Cole Palmer sparkled again with four goals, Nicolas Jackson shined, and a young star, Alfie Gilchrist, made his mark.

On the opposite end of the stick, that was a terrible night for Everton, their worst under Sean Dyche by a country mile.

The Toffees will have to shake off that defeat as quick as they can, they are embroiled in a tight battle to beat the drop.

I said it would be an enjoyable night, and it was for Chelsea fans at least. I hope the majority of you had a good time, thanks for joining.

I must admit, when Chelsea signed Cole Palmer, it did not even come into my mind that he would be in the race for top scorer.

Well, he is joint top with Erling Haaland on 20!

So, that's 29 matches unbeaten at home against Everton for Chelsea.

That is one crazy run, to not lose to a team in 30 years at home is unbelievable.

Everton fans must dread the day they have to travel down to west London and face them.

At least it's done for another season.

It will be a long debrief. This is the most embarrassed, I felt as an individual, as part of a team in my time as a football, which is over a long time. So, it shows where we're at today. We can only apologise to the fans who spent their hard-earned money traveling the country supporting those who come to turn up on a Monday night and witness that.

We have to accept that [there are] no excuses on our behalf. That just wasn't anywhere near the level that we expected ourselves. Well, I hope that anyone saw that understands why I feel embarrassed. If you concede six goals, you should feel embarrassed for one, but even the manner of the goals.

I have had this discussion with a few of my friends and colleagues, and now I want to hear from you.

Is Cole Palmer the signing of the season? I feel Alexis Mac Allister may have a shout for Liverpool, and Declan Rice for Arsenal, but at the moment it's hard to look past Palmer.

What a revelation he has been for Chelsea!

Whenever Cole Palmer steps up to take a penalty, you never think he is going to miss, do you?

He has taken nine penalties in the Premier League this season, and converted all of them, only Yaya Touré with 11 from 11 has posted a better 100% conversion rate from the spot in the competition's history.

In terms of Chelsea spot-kick takers, only Frank Lampard has scored more penalties than Palmer in a single league campaign for Chelsea, with 10.

So basically, if you're playing Chelsea, try your hardest not to fly into challenges in the box.

It all happened so fast. We started well and I scored another hat-trick - buzzing. The team needed that after Sunday, but we did well tonight.

The first one was my favourite, my right foot was a bit of a swinger. Everyone was buzzing for Alfie Gilchrist. He has been a Chelsea fan all his life and everyone is buzzing for him. After the previous game we needed to come out and show something. It was a good performance tonight.

On the penalty argument:

Other players wanted to take it, but I am the penalty taker and I wanted to take it. I think we are showing everyone is wanting to take responsibility, it may be a bit over the top, but everyone wants to win. We are laughing and joking about it.

This season we have been a bit inconsistent. We have had some poor performances and we have got some good wins. We will take each game as it comes and see where we finish.

We are used to Sean Dyche's team being defensively solid and tough to break down. They were the opposite of that tonight.

Before tonight, Everton had the fourth-best defence in the league and had only conceded 42 goals.

In what was his 308th game as a top-flight manager, that is the first time a Sean Dyche team conceded six goals in a single Premier League match.

A rarity that we may not see again for a long time.

Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea manager, speaking to Sky Sports on the penalty argument:

It is a shame. I was telling the players before, we had a meeting with all the staff and we were talking. We cannot behave in this way. I told them this is the last time I accept this type of behavior. This is not a joke. It is impossible after a performance like this.

It shows we are in a process where we will learn a lot, we need to change and see more in the collective way than to think of individual achievement. I have made it clear to them and through you to the fans that Cole Palmer is the [penalty] taker, if he wants to give it to another he can but not in this way, it is a sad situation that happened and cannot happen again.

The 21-year-old is the first Chelsea player to net four goals in a game since Frank Lampard in 2010.

Not bad company to be in.

I'm not sure there is much more I can say about Cole Palmer than I have already said.

Everything Palmer touches at the moment turns to gold. He has had many brilliant games this season, but that one tops the lot.

Not only did Palmer become the first Chelsea player to score a first-half hat-trick in the Premier League, he also became just the third player to reach 20+ goals in his debut Premier League season for Chelsea after Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Diego Costa. Not bad company.

The statistics show just how good Palmer is.

While it was Chelsea's best game of the season, there was still a moment when tensions rose in the Chelsea ranks.

An argument between Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson arose after the penalty was awarded, which was not a good look.

You'd have thought they'd be happy on a night like this!

Cole Palmer will get all the plaudits, but what a brilliant moment at the end for Alfie Gilchrist.

Just moments after coming on he took his goal like he had done it many times before.

The celebration that ensued afterwards was brilliant too, you could see how much it meant to him, and all the senior players shared his joy.

I'm sure many more will follow.

Everton's players and fans will want to get this night out of their minds as quickly as they can.

The result is their second biggest margin of defeat in the competition following a 7-0 loss to Arsenal in May 2005.

It also means they are now winless in their last nine Premier League away games.

The statistics are not good reading for them, they were dreadful, and there is no other way to describe it.

After that performance, Chelsea are now just three points behind Manchester United in seventh, with a game in hand.

Now unbeaten in eight league games, Chelsea look like they are finally hitting their stride.

Inconsistency has been a word thrown around a lot about this Blues side. They have a lot of talent, and if they can continue in this form you just feel they may make the Europa Conference League.

A huge night for them.

A torturous night for Everton is over.

Chelsea look like they are finally heading in the right direction, that was surely their best performance under Mauricio Pochettino.

Cole Palmer was once again the star of the show, his four goals means he has hit 20 goals in the Premier League this season.

There was a goal for academy product Alfie Gilchrist too, and they were the biggest celebrations of the night.

Everton will need to get over that one quickly, they were woeful and will need to be much improved if they are to stay out of danger.

A night to remember for Chelsea, and one to forget for the Toffees.

Dorde Petrovic is called into action, which has been rare tonight.

He calmly beats away Beto's effort from just inside the area, it's the closest they have been to scoring this half.

They are desperate for a clean sheet, they haven't had one in a very long time.

After the wild celebrations are over, it gets even worse for Everton.

Substitute Nathan Patterson is forced off with injury, and Ben Godfrey comes on for him.

The Chelsea youngster nets his first goal for the club as he smashes home the rebound after Ben Chilwell's shot was saved by Jordan Pickford.

The celebrations are wonderful, Gilchrist races over to the fans with a beaming smile on his face. Pure passion.

Chelsea are making their two final changes.

Adam Gilchrist comes on to replace Malo Gusto, while Deivid Washington is on for Nicolas Jackson.

Considering how good he was tonight, Jackson doesn't look best pleased as he comes off.

This game is petering out now.

Chelsea know the job is done and probably already have their mind said to the weekend's FA Cup semi-final clash with Man City.

Meanwhile, Everton will be begging for the final whistle to be blown.

Mauricio Pochettino has decided to make another two changes.

One of those coming off is Cole Palmer, who comes off to a standing ovation from Stamford Bridge. What a performance.

Cesare Casadei replaces the star, with Ben Chilwell also coming on for Mykhailo Mudryk.

This may just be Nicolas Jackson's best performance in a Chelsea shirt.

The striker dances past several Everton players like they are not there, before setting up Mykhailo Mudryk.

However, the Ukrainian winger can't finish off a brilliant move.

Noni Madueke's night is up.

He doesn't look too happy about it after he signalled to the bench he was ok after a knock, but he obliges in coming off, and Carney Chukuwumeka comes on for him.

Beto hits the side-netting with a decent effort.

The Everton striker has had moments during this game, but overall, Everton have been extremely poor.

Ouch, that's a very poor challenge from Michael Keane.

He catches Nicolas Jackson on the ankle with a mistimed tackle and gets a yellow card.

It just feels like there is a red coming for the visitors. if that happens, who knows what the scoreline will end up being.

Amidst the celebrations, the camera pans to Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson who make up following the pre-penalty spat.

I can't believe there was such a big argument while they are 4-0 up, not needed at all.

Oh well, it's 5-0 now anyway.

He never misses, does he!

Cole Palmer steps up calmly and sends Jordan Pickford the wrong way, slotting it into the bottom corner.

He now has 20 Premier League goals this season, level at the top with Erling Haaland.

Everton's night just gets worse.

First Cole Palmer goes down which could well have been a penalty before Noni Madueke goes down under the challenge from James Tarkowski.

Arguments then start between the Chelsea players, but Cole Palmer will take...

Very poor from the Chelsea players, very immature.

What a ball from Malo Gusto.

He whips in a delightful low cross which Jordan Pickford punches straight onto Nicolas Jackson before it bounces off an Everton player and wide.

That could have gone horribly wrong.

This is not a sight Everton fans wanted to see.

Jarrad Branthwaite hobbles off in pain and is replaced by Michael Keane.

Branthwaite may not have had his finest night, but he has been one of Everton's best players this season.

Sean Dyche will be hoping it's not too serious.

Nearly a fourth for Cole Palmer.

Mhykailo Mudryk shows electrifying pace to burst through the midfield before sliding through Palmer.

Everybody held 5their breath expecting the net to ripple, but Jordan Pickford does well to rush out, get low, and deny him.

I must say, Mudryk is rapid!

Another yellow card for Everton.

This time it's for James Tarkowski who cynically takes out Nicolas Jackson.

After some time on the floor, Jackson is ok to continue.

Maybe I'm wrong.

Everton might be having a go, Andre Gomes first forces a corner with a deflected effort, which Jarrad Branthwaite ends up heading wide.

Can Chelsea keep a clean sheet, they don't usually.

I wouldn't be surprised if not too much happens in this second half.

Everton won't want to concede any more, while Chelsea will be content with the four, I'd imagine.

The early moments of this half are reflecting this.

No surprise, Sean Dyche has made some changes.

Everton have made a triple-substitution at half-time, with Nathan Patterson, Andre Gomes, and Jack Harrison all come on. Seamus Coleman, James Garner, and Amadou Onana are the players that make way.

The 21-year-old now has 19 Premier League goals this season, the same as Ollie Watkins, and only Erling Haaland has more with 20.

I did not expect him to be in for the Golden Boot, but there we are.

Now I know Chelsea tend to be awful after half-times but what a luxurious position this is. Cole Palmer is a superstar - and being watched by England assistant Steve Holland here - while Nicolas Jackson can now finally say he’s got more Premier League goals than yellows. Cole Palmer is simply untouchable at the moment.

He took each one of his goals expertly and could have even had a fourth if he finished the easiest chance of all of them.

No one will remember that miss though, what they will remember is that he has now netted Chelsea's fastest hat-trick in the Premier League era.

Well then, who saw that coming?

A smattering of boos come from the Everton end, their side has been absolutely woeful so far.

Cole Palmer has once again shown what he is all about, netting a perfect hat-trick inside 30 minutes to blow Everton away.

Nicolas Jackson then added a fourth with a fantastic goal just before the break to pile more misery on the visitors.

The wait for a win at Stamford Bridge is set to continue for Everton.

Chelsea have a fourth just before the break and what a goal it is from Nicolas Jackson.

He delightfully takes down Marc Cucurella's swinging cross before swivelling and finishing expertly.

Everton can't handle Chelsea, they are all over the place.

VAR checks for an Everton red card after Amadou Onana seemingly put his hands up to the neck of Conor Gallagher.

After looking at it though, they wave it away. It would have been harsh.

Mykhailo Mudryk is the first Chelsea player to get one, he pulls back Seamus Coleman who was marauding forward.

From the free-kick Everton should score, but no one could turn home James Tarkowski's cutback.

Chelsea are really enjoying themselves here.

Nicolas Jackson then drives through the Everton defence before going down under the challenge of Jarrad Branthwaite.

Ashley Young now goes into the book for a poorly timed challenge, he didn't even argue with it.

Everton think they have one back, but the offside flag goes up.

He had to look across the line, it wasn't even tight.

The Everton goalkeeper just passes it straight to Cole Palmer who sends it right back over his head and into the net.

The boy can do no wrong, he took that with so much ease. That's back-to-back Premier League hat-tricks at home.

Cole Palmer making Everton's defenders look like non-leaguers (no offence to our weekend warriors). You hope he has a nutmeg clause in his contract for Chelsea, considering how many he is racking up.

That first goal was a thing of beauty. The second was a reward for continuing his run and anticipating the rebound. Chelsea have made a habit of throwing away leads with very poor second halves, but surely – surely – they won't go on to throw this one away.

The Everton fans are incredibly quiet all of a sudden.

Before the opener, the Toffees were on top and looked the more likely to go in front, but that's all changed now.

Both their midfield and defence are really struggling to contain Chelsea.

Cole Palmer is on fire, he now has 11 goals in his last seven appearances at home.

That's incredible form, where would they be without him.

He has it now!

Cole Palmer cannot be stopped at the moment and this time he does manage to finish into an empty net.

How does Cole Palmer not have a brace?

Just as I'm singing his praises, Palmer doesn't turn home the easiest chance he's had as a Chelsea player.

He has an open goal from two yards out, but he runs ahead of the ball and it bounces off him in the wrong direction.

We'll let him off for that one though.

Wow, wow, wow.

That is Cole Palmer at his brilliant best, he has just single-handedly put Chelsea in front.

The 21-year-old nutmegs Jarrad Branthwaite, before a lovely one-two with Nicolas Jackson which ends with a lovely bending finish.

Chelsea had been on the backfoot, but with Palmer in the side, they always have a chance.

He is incredible.

Oh no, Beto has to score.

Everton have made a great start and link up really well down the right-hand side.

Seamus Coleman then fires a dangerous low cross across goal and Beto fires it over the bar from inside the six-yard box.

The offside flag went up, but on the replay, it looks like the Everton striker was actually onside.

He simply had to do better.

That was a bit dangerous from Malo Gusto.

The Chelsea full-back doesn't have many options as he heads the wrong way and rolls it lightly back toward Dorde Petrovic, however, Beto nearly pounces on it.

Luckily for Chelsea, Petrovic gets there first.

Some promising play from Everton there.

James Tarkowski nods a set-piece across the box, but Beto can't get on the end of it.

The Everton fans liked that, they produce a mighty roar of encouragement.

Ooooooh...

Amadou Onana has left a painful one on Conor Gallagher in the first minute, accidentally laying his studs in on the ankle of the Englishman.

It warrants a free-kick, but nothing comes from the delivery.

Here we go then, Chelsea get the ball rolling!

The Everton fans are in fine voice, will they have anything to cheer about throughout the night.

We will find out over the course of the next 90 minutes.

The flames are out, which will warm up the players on a chilly spring night.

The Everton fans boo the Premier League anthem, they must have heard that I'm not a fan of it, and they agree...

At least after it the Chelsea speakers blast out some funky music, lets hope that translates onto the pitch.

As expected for Chelsea, though interesting to see the academy kids Tyrique George (born February 2006) and Kiano Dyer (November 2006) on the substitutes’ bench for the first time. They’re two very talented kids and would be nice to see them get a chance if Chelsea are cruising to a win near the end.

The fans are starting to stream in.

Just look at that scarf, she must be well travelled as a fan, there are a lot of badges there.

The Chelsea fans have not always had enjoyable experiences at Stamford Bridge this season, but they will be hoping tonight is.

Dele Alli, Everton midfielder, speaking on Sky Sports' MNF:

I just wish I could be out there and help them [Everton] and you know be a part of the team on the pitch.

I think he's [Sean Dyche] been amazing since he's been there. I think it's a strange one because they do create so many chances. [Abdoulaye] Doucoure helps with the goals Dom [Calvert-Lewin] obviously he's great, we all know he's a great goal scorer. They create so many chances are not scoring so many goals but the quality is there. It's like it's only a matter of time.

That's why it was so hard for me when I got the last injury because I was watching the games and I could see the chances that the midfielders were getting, or that were dropping on the edge of the box, and I couldn't wait to get out there.

Look, we should expect some goals tonight.

Chelsea are without a clean sheet in 13 consecutive games in all competitions.

During that run, they have shipped 27 goals. However, Everton only have 32 all season.

A poor defence against a poor attack.

Dom’s [Calvert-Lewin] got a tight hamstring, nothing more, so we’re happy in the sense that we think it will recover quickly. It was a tight call.

It feels like just yesterday that a young Jordan Pickford broke into the Sunderland starting 11.

He's not a spring chicken anymore, the Everton stopper is set to make his 400th appearance this evening.

I guess goalkeepers do rack up the appearances quickly.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin out, Beto has to step up for Everton tonight.

Everton have struggled to find the back of the net this season, and so has Beto, he only has three league goals in 26 matches.

They will need him to find his form if they are to win against the odds tonight.

I'm doing really well. It's been nearly a year now, but I'm feeling good, I'm obviously injured, which is disappointing. But yeah, I'm doing well.

When I did that interview, I said it was the best I'd felt at that time, I was coming out of rehab and getting ready to be back playing. It's been tough, but, it's a journey I'm on and I'm enjoying it. I'm just waiting to get back now.

When I did the interview, I said, if I helped one person that was all I needed, I also did it for my own reasons, obviously. But, to help one person that was all I wanted from it. The reaction I got and the support was definitely overwhelming, but it was amazing to see how many people did help. I'm definitely very proud of it.

I was [expecting to play this season], when I went there I tore my rec firm, I've had to be patient, I've really had to learn what patience is. It's been a long journey with the injury.

Well, while it seems Dominic Calvert-Lewin has not arrived in west London, the rest of the Everton side has.

It's a big day for them after another eventful week, they desperately need to pick up points to stay out of trouble.

The players are looking relaxed, so that's a positive for the Everton fans.

Some potential early team news that Everton fans will not want to see.

Everton have arrived at Stamford Bridge, but it looks like a certain Dominic Calvert-Lewin has not arrived with the team.

If he is not involved tonight, that's a huge blow for Everton, especially after his recent return to goalscoring form.

Who will start up top for Everton?

While he may not be on the pitch for Everton tonight, Dele Alli will be involved in tonight's match, as it's been confirmed that he will appear as a special guest on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.

It is set to be Alli's first media appearance since he courageously opened up on The Overlap with Gary Neville, last summer.

The 28-year-old signed for Everton in 2022, and is currently working towards a return to first-team action.

The number seven seems to be coming up a lot tonight.

Anyway, Cole Palmer, what a player. Many of us knew Palmer was a talent while at Manchester City, but I’m not sure many predicted the incredible season he has had at Chelsea this year.

The 21-year-old has been involved in 25 goals in his last 22 Premier League games, scoring 16 and assisting nine. Extremely impressive.

If Palmer scores tonight, he will become the first Chelsea player to net in seven successive Premier League home games.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see his name on the scoresheet this evening, I’m not sure anyone would be.

While Chelsea may be in the midst of a seven-match unbeaten run, they have conceded a lot of goals in those matches.

The Blues have both scored and conceded at least two goals in seven consecutive matches in the Premier League.

If they do so again tonight, they will become the first top-flight English side ever to have done so in eight consecutive matches.

What I take this as is to expect lots of goals, which is great for the neutral.

That's why I said it's set to be enjoyable!

It’s already been a very eventful day for Everton.

The club have now officially lodged their appeal against a two-point deduction they were handed for breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules.

What this means is that there may not be a verdict on the appeal until five days after the end of the campaign.

Stamford Bridge is not a happy hunting ground for Everton.

Yes, that’s right, Everton have gone nearly 30 years without winning away at Chelsea. There is only one other winless run by one Premier League club away to another that is just as long, and that’s Newcastle United’s record away to Liverpool.

This is a fixture that is a staple in the Premier League football schedule, and is one where the home side normally comes out on top,

Today, it’s Chelsea that are hosting and despite spending the majority of the campaign in the bottom half of the table, they currently sit in ninth and are still in the hunt for a European place.

Meanwhile, Everton are fighting for their lives. After being deducted eight points this season from two separate offences, the second of which they are appealing, the Toffees sit just two points clear of the relegation zone, but they do have two games in hand.

You have to love football on a Monday night. A lot of you may have got home from work, have got your dinner ready, and can put your feet up and watch some Premier League football. Nothing better.

It’s not a bad game either, Chelsea vs Everton, a match that has provided some fabulous moments over the years.

This year it could have a big impact on the European spots, and the fight for survival. I’m sure Luton Town and Nottingham Forest fans will be willing Chelsea on.

It’s set to be an enjoyable watch, well, we can live I hope.
