Princess Charlotte is already a keen sportswoman - but there's one game that she is particularly obsessed with.

Like her mum Princess Kate, the eight-year-old royal loves a number of sports - from tennis to rugby. But she's also incredibly fond of football, which was first revealed by her dad Prince William.

In 2022, the Princess and her father visited St George's Park - the England Lionesses training ground in Burton-on-Trent - where he relayed a touching message from his footie-mad daughter. Prince William told Captain Leah Williamson: “Charlotte wanted me to tell you that she’s really good in goal. She said, ‘Please tell them that’. Budding star for the future!”

The young princess wouldn't be the first royal to play competitive sports as the Windsors have a rich lineage of keen equestrians and Olympians. However, none have pursued a career in football. Charlotte has spoken about her love of sports before and said that her absolute favourite physical activity is gymnastics.

When she was unveiled as the new Patron of the Rugby Football Union, the Princess of Wales spoke at length about each of her childrens' love of sport. Kate explained how her oldest boy, Prince George, loves playing both rugby and netball with girls and boys at his school. She said: “Now that there is a move towards co-ed sport, so it’s not just girls playing netball, but other sports like rugby, which is great.” Her youngest son Prince Louis is said to also be obsessed with rugby. Kate said: “They’re all enjoying it, Louis is kamikaze, we’re worrying about when he gets older, he’ll be in the middle of everything.”

The Princess of Wales this week shared how her daughter once made her day in the most unexpected way. Princess Charlotte, who turns nine next week, has a very close bond with her mum. And she put a big smile on Kate's face in the sweetest way. Kate recalled the moment during a visit to Vsi Razom Community Hub in Bracknell in October last year.

She was there to learn about the organisation’s work to support Ukrainian refugees, and during her stay got to chatting to an eight-year-old girl named Liza. Crouching down to Liza's eye level, the Princess said, "I heard my daughter singing this morning and it’s a song called ‘Shine Jesus Shine’ and that made me very happy this morning."

Liza then responded excitedly to the song's title, prompting Kate to ask, "Do you know that song? Does it have the same tune? I heard that this morning and it made me very happy." It comes after Prince William revealed that mornings in the Wales household typically start with Prince George and Princess Charlotte arguing over what music to listen to.
