The boy, who can not be named for legal reasons, was arrested on Wednesday morning following reports of an incident involving a ‘sharp object’ at Birley Academy.

The boy has been remanded in custody and has also been charged with possession of a blade or sharply pointed article on a school premises.

He will appear at Sheffield Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The sharp is believed to be a broken piece of glass, police said on Wednesday.

At the time of the incident, the school was placed into lockdown with many parents rushing to the gates to try to collect their children.
