Peter Jackson directed the epic blockbusters, which starred A-listers such as Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, and Orlando Bloom.

And some of those actors - in particular, those who played hobbits in the fantasy realm - have reunited years on.

Dominic Monaghan made an Instagram post commemorating the occasion, featuring all four of the second breakfast loving cast.

Dom is known for playing Merry Brandybuck, one half of a mischievous duo in the films.

His partner in crime Pippin Took was acted by Billy Boyd.

The pair were part of the Fellowship tasked with protecting central character Frodo Baggins as he battled against the forces of evil while attempting to destroy the One Ring.

However, they spent a large amount of time scavenging for six meals a day or being captured by Orcs rather than offering the group much help.

Also present at the reunion were Elijah Wood and Sean Astin.

The beloved actors got their big break playing Frodo and his loveable sidekick Samwise Gamgee.

Orlando Bloom, who played the part of an elf rather than a hobbit, was nevertheless also welcomed to the get together.

Dom captured the Instagram post: "Squad goals. How's yours?"

Fans flocked to the comments to gush over the group, with one exclaiming: "The Ultimate Squad!"

Another added: "Absolute legends!!"

A third joked: "Imagine being out on the lash in Liverpool and bump into you lads. Gutted I couldn't afford comic con this year as I only live up the road!"

A fourth sighed: "Oh to have a pint with these guys."

Lord of the Rings stars - where are they now?

Elijah Wood - He went on to make it big in the acting world a few years on from the fantasy franchise, starring in films such as Avalon, Paradise, and Radio Flyer. He then went on to star in Netflix series Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency in 2016. He played one of the main characters, bellhop Todd Brotzman, for both seasons.

Sean Astin - The actor was already immersed in Hollywood by the time Lord of the Rings came around, as his first notable role was as a child star in 1985 kids movie The Goonies. However, one of his most notable roles took place in recent years, as he joined the cast of Stranger Things. Sean became a major player in season two as Bob Newby, a love interest for Joyce Byers.

Dominic Monaghan - Besides Lord of the Rings, Dom is best known for his role in the hit TV series Lost. He played rockstar Charlie Pace on the American drama about survivors of a plane crash who find themselves on a mysterious island. He also took part in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Billy Boyd - As soon as the trilogy wrapped up he was cast in epic war drama Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World alongside Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany.
